A Message from Camp Ernst

There is a lot of misinformation online about head lice, and many people do not know what to believe. We have teamed up with Simplicety and head lice expert Pete the Lice Guy to provide Camp Ernst families and staff with accurate, practical head lice education before the season begins.

Pete has personally treated over 14,000 head lice cases in the last 14 years, and this toolkit gives families clear steps for checking, prevention, treatment, and return-to-camp guidance.

What to Expect

What to Expect at Camp Ernst

Clear procedures so every family and staff member knows exactly what to expect.

Arrival Day

All campers check in with the camp. Once they get with their cabins, each cabin has a scheduled time to come for screening. All kids will be screened with a good metal lice comb by camp staff.

If Lice Are Found

Parents are notified immediately after the screening if head lice are found. Parents can pick up their child and treat at home, or, if Simplicety is on-site, have the child treated by Simplicety so they can stay and return to the cabin once treatment is complete.

Return Criteria

The child must be nit-free before returning to the cabin. All live lice and nits must be manually removed. The nurse will perform a clearance check at the health office before the child can rejoin the cabin. If treated by Simplicety on site, Simplicety will also return Friday for a follow-up check.

Camp Ernst FAQ

Questions from Camp Ernst Families

Straight answers. No panic, no wrong information.

Yes — campers check in with camp first, then each cabin has a scheduled screening time. Camp staff screen campers with a good metal lice comb. Use our Pre-Camp Checklist before arrival.
Parents are notified immediately. You have two options:

• Your child can be treated on-site by Simplicety and return to their cabin once treatment is complete.

• Or, you may pick up your child and treat at home. The child must be completely nit-free before returning to camp.

See the Action Plan for step-by-step guidance on treating at home.
Yes. Camp Ernst has a strict no-nit policy.

If a camper is found to have live lice or nits during a head check, they will be sent home immediately. The child must be completely nit-free (no live lice and no nits) before they are allowed to return to camp. Camp staff will perform a clearance check before the child can rejoin their cabin.

Parents may treat at home or contact Simplicety for assistance. See the Action Plan for step-by-step guidance on proper treatment and clearance.
